Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Lang Study ("Lang Study", "we", "us", or "our") handles personal information when you use getlangstudy.com and related learning tools, including Chinese character practice, stroke-order tracing, AI demos, custom worksheets, returned-paper review, assignment handoffs, accounts, support, file uploads, and paid features if they are enabled.

This policy is intended to describe the product as it operates today and as paid learning features are introduced. If a checkout page, payment processor, or merchant of record provides additional privacy terms, those terms apply to the payment transaction in addition to this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect only the information needed to provide, secure, support, and improve Lang Study.

• Account and authentication information: If you create an account, we may collect your name, email address, password authentication data, email verification status, session records, linked OAuth provider information such as Google sign-in identifiers, account role, ban status, and related security records.
• Learning activity: The free practice flow may save completed characters, mistake counts, missed strokes, review queue items, and worksheet selections in your browser storage. Returned-paper review may also save hard marks, timestamps, the original returned character set, and paper-source metadata so review queues, progress reports, and handoff notes can explain where a review item came from. If signed-in progress features are enabled later, we may save learning history, custom lists, worksheet settings, assignments, or review history to your account.
• Worksheet and custom list content: If you enter or paste custom characters, they may be processed in the browser to build printable worksheets. Worksheet share links can also encode the current character set, grid count, paper size, tracing mode, note text, and reference-info toggle so you can reopen or share the same worksheet setup. Unless a saved-list feature is enabled, this content is not saved to your account by default.
• Assignment, paper-review, and handoff links: Copy-ready plans and shared URLs may include the selected character set, audience, return cadence, title, note text, worksheet options, hard-mark selections, and source page. This lets a learner, parent, tutor, or teacher reopen the same online practice, paper review, progress report, or worksheet context. Review URLs and notes before sending them if they include student names or private classroom details.
• Files and profile content: If account file or avatar features are available and you upload files, we process the file name, type, size, storage key, upload time, and the file itself. Account file storage is separate from browser-local learning progress unless the product explicitly offers a sync or import workflow.
• AI prompts, uploads, and generated results: If you use our AI demos or image/text generation tools, we may process the text you enter, uploaded images or files, and the generated output through the configured provider. Depending on the feature, those inputs and outputs may also be logged for abuse prevention, debugging, or rate limiting.
• Contact and support information: If you email us, submit a contact form, or use a support channel, we receive the contact details and message content you choose to provide.
• Payment and billing information: If paid plans are enabled, payment processors such as Creem or Stripe may collect payment details, billing address, tax information, transaction identifiers, subscription status, invoices, and fraud-prevention information. Lang Study does not store full card numbers on its own servers.
• Usage, analytics, and device data: We may process page views, referrers, browser and device type, approximate region, IP address, request logs, error logs, product interactions, and similar technical data. Analytics tools may include services such as Cloudflare analytics, Umami, Microsoft Clarity, Google Analytics, or Plausible, depending on configuration.
• Cookies and local storage: We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, language preference, theme preference, sidebar state, security, analytics, product reliability, and local learning progress.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

• provide Chinese character practice, worksheets, accounts, paid access, support, and related product features
• authenticate users, keep sessions secure, verify email addresses, and prevent account abuse
• save learning progress where the feature supports it
• generate worksheets and custom practice materials requested by the user
• preserve same-set handoff context across online practice, returned-paper review, worksheets, assignments, progress reports, and study plans
• process purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, invoices, and payment support when paid features are enabled
• respond to support, feedback, partnership, and legal requests
• understand product usage, diagnose errors, measure conversion, and improve the learning experience
• protect Lang Study, users, and third parties from fraud, spam, security incidents, and misuse
• comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations

Where laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, our legal bases may include performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.

Sharing and Third-Party Services

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are commonly used in U.S. state privacy laws.

We may share information with service providers that help us operate Lang Study, including:

• Cloudflare for hosting, database, DNS, security, logs, email sending, analytics, and Cloudflare R2 for file storage
• Better Auth and OAuth providers for account authentication, including Google sign-in if enabled
• Hanzi Writer and Hanzi Writer data for stroke-order animation and guided tracing
• Cloudflare AI services and fal.ai for AI demos, text generation, image generation, or related experimental features when those tools are enabled
• Analytics providers such as Microsoft Clarity, Umami, Google Analytics, or Plausible, when configured
• Payment providers such as Creem or Stripe, when paid checkout is enabled
• Email and support providers for transactional email, verification email, password reset email, and support communication
• Storage providers such as Cloudflare storage for uploaded files, if file features are enabled
• Professional advisers or authorities where necessary for legal, security, tax, compliance, or dispute purposes

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. We try to use providers that are appropriate for a small online education product and that support reasonable security practices.

Cookies, Local Storage, and Analytics

Some storage is essential for the service to work, such as authentication cookies, language preference, theme preference, and security-related data. Learning progress for the free practice flow may be stored locally in your browser so you can continue where you left off. This may include missed-stroke review items, returned-paper hard marks, and the original paper set used to create a follow-up review queue.

You can clear cookies or local storage in your browser settings. Clearing them may sign you out, reset preferences, or remove local lesson progress and review history, including returned-paper marks that have not been exported, copied into a handoff, or saved through an account feature.

Analytics tools help us understand whether learners can find, use, and complete the practice flows. Depending on the provider, analytics may collect page URLs, browser details, device details, interaction events, approximate location, and technical identifiers. We use this data to improve reliability, usability, and service experience, not to sell personal information.

Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy:

• account records are kept while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward for security, backup, legal, or audit needs
• payment and invoice records may be retained for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations
• support messages are retained for as long as needed to respond and maintain reasonable business records
• security logs and technical logs are kept for limited periods unless needed to investigate abuse or incidents
• browser-local learning progress stays on your device until you clear it or the browser removes it; account deletion does not automatically erase data that is stored only in your browser

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

You can:

• update or delete account information through account settings where available
• delete your account where the product provides account deletion
• clear local browser storage to remove local learning progress
• contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of account data
• opt out of non-essential analytics through browser settings, privacy tools, or provider-level controls where available

We may need to verify your request before acting on it. We may keep certain information where required for security, legal, tax, accounting, dispute, or fraud-prevention reasons.

Children's Privacy

Lang Study may be useful for families, tutors, and classrooms, but it is not directed to children under 13. Children should use Lang Study with a parent, guardian, teacher, or school administrator where required by local law.

If you are under 13, do not create an account or provide personal information unless a parent, guardian, or school has authorized your use where legally required. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without required consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. International Processing

Lang Study is available online and may use service providers in different countries. Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate legal mechanisms, provider commitments, and security safeguards for international processing.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information, including authentication controls, access controls, provider security features, and HTTPS. No online service can guarantee perfect security. Please use a strong password and contact us if you believe your account or data has been affected.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Lang Study adds languages, learning tools, accounts, payments, analytics, or other features. The updated version will be posted on this page with an updated date. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to provide additional notice where appropriate.
